New Glazes

There are some new glazes (to me) on some of these beads and others were re-fired because they did not quite get to temperature last time.
The top picture is speckled clay with Turquoise glaze.  These were re-fired because they did not quite reach temperature last time and the same with the TuTu Pink pendant set.
The blue moon is Turquoise over Oil Spot and the last picture is Oil Spot glaze.

  1. I have had many glazes be re-fired. One thing I have found is that they seem to darken up in that 2nd firing. Sometimes good, but more often not :(

Some things I've found helpful (all glazes are different, and all glazes on different clays are different) with my stuff is some glazes need a really good messy in every nook and cranny first coat. Then the 2nd and 3rd -ish coats get a more even brushing. This way there is more puddling.

If you are getting pin holing, maybe dampen your piece first, then glaze - especially with a glaze that tends to be too thick and dries too fast. Thin it out too, but not too much.

Also, if you are re-glazing and re-firing, throw in a freshly glazed piece too with that extra coat applied to see if it is better to reuse the already glazed ones or just go for the newly glazed, better technique one.

I really like the direction you are going in Marti! Keep it up!!!

  2. Love your work Marti. THose first ones are really cool. Are they baskets? Or like a shawl design? I see both. :-)

  3. Thanks Ladies! The re-firing went much better, the first time it did not get up to cone six.
The first set I am calling Tasche Pendant and earrings. I looked for a translation for pocket and found the German word tasche and liked it.
I can see a shawl, will have to work on that!
